Kyrenia
Girne Castle
This impressive Castle is in the heart of Kyrenia,
North Cyprus and it was built in the
7th Century by the Byzantines.
The shipwreck museum displayed within the Castle, is the oldest ever
discovered. The findings suggested
that the ship sank due to a storm back in
300BC.
St.Hilarion Castle
The magnificant Castle is said to be named after a Saint. The Castle
was said to have been used for military
and residential purposes. The Castles is
built in between two hill tops. From the Western wall of the castle
is a special window known as the Queens
window where you are able to see
spectacular views of the village of Karmi in
Kyrenia, North Cyprus.
Bellapais Abbey
This beautiful Abbey was built between the years of 1158 and 1205
in North Cyprus.
The abbey was constructed by monks from this beautiful abbey. There is a
spectacular view of the whole northern coastline of the island.
This famous abbey holds classical music festivals every year.
Buffavento Castle
The buffavento Castle was originally a watch tower and then it wasconverted into a Castle by the Lusignans. The Castle sits 950 metres
abovesea level. In the parking lot of the Buffavento Castle, there is a
marblemonument in memory of crew from the Talya Airways plane, which
crashed into he Buffavento on the 27th February 1988.
Guzelyurt
Guzelyurt is particularly famous for its citrus fruits such as the
oranges,lemmons and grapefruits, they thrive on the fertile red soil.
Guzelyurt is the ideal picnic area for all those who wish to escape
the hustle and bustle of the city life
and wonderful Holiday.
A large proportion of the fruits are expated, but also many of the
fruits are made into juices and canned for local consumption.
Ayios Geargios Maronite Church
This church is set in the village of Korucham, most of the Maronite
population of Northern Cyprus live here. Every Sunday mass would be
held at the Ayios Geargios, as well as being held on other holidays.
Piri Osman Pasha Mosque
This mosque was built in the ottoman period, and is also known as
the Minareli mosque. There is an amazing marble grave in the mosques
garden of Vezir Osman Pasha, who died in the year 1839.
Petra Tou Limnidi
To the west of Vouni sits a tiny island by the name of Petra Tou
Limnidi. This Island is one of the oldest places in Cyprus to be intribited,
its first inhabitants date back to between 1927-1931. An archeological
team set out and discovered stone utensils and farming tools in there
findings.
Famagusta
One of the most important parts in all of the mediterranean is
famagusta.To the North of Famagusta you have the Salamis ruins. This great
city is said to have been founded some time during the 11th century BC.
The ruins at salamis are spectacular which include a magnificant
amphitheatre, royal tombs and roman baths.
Just a little inland from Famagusta is St. Barnabus. This beautiful
church has been preserved since the way it was back in 1976. There is a
wonderful collection of 18th Century findings for all to see inside the
church.
